Gas War Underway at Flour Bluff Gas Stations

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

There is a gas war underway on Friday, and drivers are taking advantage of the super low prices.

Kiii News Reporter Michael Gibson went Live from Flour Bluff Drive with more on these great deals.

It has been a long time since we have seen a gas war in Corpus Christi, and it is certainly great news for those who drive and fill up in the Flour Bluff area. The Murphy Express gas station has had to lower its prices in order to compete.

The price per gallon was at $2.95 earlier Friday, but has since dropped to $2.92.

Another example of the Flour Bluff price war could be found at the HEB Plus, where it was at $2.97 per gallon, and if you get an HEB gift card and use it to pay at the pump, you save 12 cents a gallon, bringing the price to $2.85.

The last time 3News reported on a gas war breaking out was back in 2008, when prices reached the $4 mark and then dropped fast. Eventually, some area stations lowered the price to around the $2 per gallon mark to attract customers to their stores.

"Hopefully it's just a grand opening thing," Flour Bluff resident Kathy Lane said. "Drive up a little competition here."

AAA did a survey of drivers, and take a look at this information:

46-percent of drivers believe that gas prices are too high at $3 per gallon.
61-percent say the same thing about $3.50 per gallon
90-percent say it's too high at $4 per gallon

While prices at over $3 per gallon have become the norm, people are fighting back. AAA said that 86-percent of people say they are driving less, 71-percent say they have cut back on shopping and dining out, and 54-percent are now driving a more fuel-efficient car.
