Hooks Parlay Solid Pitching Into 4-2 Win At Frisco

Posted: Updated:

FRISCO, TX - Carlos Quevedo tossed five innings of two-hit shutout ball and the Hooks withstood a ninth-inning Frisco uprising as Corpus Christi rolled to a 4-2 victory over the RoughRiders Friday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

In his first at-bat since being activated from the disabled list, Domingo Santana opened the second with an opposite-field shot to right off lefty Ryan Feierabend (1-2). His third home run of the season gave the Hooks a 1-0 lead.

Corpus Christi (12-9) added to its advantage in the fourth. Rene Garcia delivered a two-out single to left field, scoring George Springer from second base.

Erik Castro made it 4-0 Hooks in the seventh via his first home run of the season - a two-run poke down the left-field line.

Quevedo (1-1) limited the RoughRiders (11-10) to a pair of two-out doubles in his first start of the season. The Venezuelan right-hander did not walk a batter and fanned two, throwing 42 of 60 pitches for strikes.

Jake Buchanan was first out of the pen and authored a scoreless sixth before facing Jared Hoying, who opened the seventh with a triple to right-center. Hoying promptly scored on Brett Nicholas' double. Buchanan fought back and induced three ground outs to prevent further damage.

Alex Sogard, who recorded the final out of the eighth, began the ninth and permitted a single to right field off the bat of Hanser Alberto. Hoying was next and, on a 3-2 pitch, hit a ground ball up the middle which was gloved by Ben Orloff who stepped on second and threw to first for the double play. Nicholas followed and hit a soft grounder up the first baseline. Sogard failed to pick up the ball and was charged an error allowing Nicholas to reach. Alex Buchholz then moved him to second with a base hit thru the left side, prompting Keith Bodie to call on his closer, Jason Stoffel.

Tomas Telis answered quickly with a single into center, which plated a run and put the tying run at first base. Ryan Strausborger worked the count to 3-2 before Stoffel coaxed a slow-roller to second for the final out and his fifth save of the season.
