Freeway Shut Down After 18-Wheeler Jackknifes on I-37
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
Traffic was backed up Tuesday morning after an 18-wheeler jackknifed on I-37, causing authorities to shut down the freeway for about 45 minutes.
It happened just before 6:30 a.m. Police said the driver of the 18-wheeler fell asleep at the wheel. He then hit a guardrail, causing the truck to jackknife. The truck, used to carry liquid nitrogen, was empty at the time.
"It's one of the worst times to have an accident," said Captain Michael Alaniz of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "It was a little bit of a traffic nightmare."
The driver of the truck walked away with minor injuries, but received a ticket for an unsafe lane change.
