Actress Nia Vardalos Speaks at Women's Shelter Luncheon

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Actress Nia Vardalos, was the guest speaker for the Women's Shelter of South Texas Great Expectations luncheon Wednesday at the American Bank Center.

Aside from providing victims with a place to stay, the Women's Shelter also helps women empower themselves, which is why they asked Vardalos to speak at their event. You may remember her from My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

Vardalos talked about never giving up, moving forward and even about being an advocate for adoption.

"The reason that I wrote Instant Mom, its 25 pages on how to adopt from all over the world," Vardalos said. "That's the back, but the bulk of it, it's about how to be a 'fearless idiot' and just be happy, and it's not an adoption book, even though it's a great Mothers' Day gift, but it's just about being happy. Happy!"

Hundreds attended the event to help support the organization, which helps counsel and provides shelter to nearly 2,500 battered and abused women and children every year.
