National Safe Boating Week begins this weekend, and folks over at the U.S. Coast Guard station in Port Aransas are kicking it off with an open house celebration."We do have a lot of demonstrations as far as facilities," said Senior Chief Matt Long of the U.S. Coast Guard. "Paddle sport activities; we will also be doing a pyrotechnics demonstration."They will even have a robot to interact with children. Organizers said they hope the public will walk away with a better understanding of the safety requirements of boats and all around marine safety.It takes place 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the U.S. Coast Guard station on North Padre Island Drive, near Cotter and Station. The event is free and open to the community.
