CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Alicia Jasso, a longtime member of the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi family is calling it a career this month.

In fact, she has been at the University so long that it was actually under a different name when she started. As Jasso's 40-year career is coming to a close, she spoke about the evolution of the University.

After more than 40 years serving as the Assistant to the President at TAMUCC, Jasso is saying goodbye.

"I need to spend time with my family. I'm 67 years old. That's what I want to do," Jasso said. "I don't have to get up by the alarm. Must be nice. It's going to be nice. That's going to be great!"

Jasso started her career with the University in 1972, when planning for a public institution was out of an office on Alameda.

"In 1973 we became Texas A&I. This was the founding University in Corpus Christi," Jasso said.

She has since served three presidents. She said one of her favorite memories has to do with her favorite spot on campus, the Hector P. Garcia Plaza.

"We brought him out from his hospital bed to here, to this plaza, and he was hidden the whole time," Jasso said. "No one knew it was happening, and he got to see this plaza."

In addition to traveling and volunteer work during retirement, Jasso plans to visit the campus every now and then. Her grandson, O'Shea Dumes, is on the Islanders baseball team.

Jasso's last day is May 24.
