Corpus Christi (kiii sports)- The Corpus Christi Hooks scored in double digits for the second time in the past three nights on Wednesday, and the Hooks would need every one of their ten tallies by game's end.
San Antonio jumped to a 3-0 second-inning lead against Mike Foltynewicz. Johan Limonta's first home run landed on the right-field pool deck. He successfully addressed a 96-mph full-count offering. Jeudy Valdez contributed an RBI single and Eddy Rodriguez scored on a balk call.
One of Foltynewicz' pitches was clocked at 103.
The visitors' lead was short-lived as Corpus Christi posted six runs - five unearned - off Matt Andriese. Drew Muren picked up an RBI while reaching on what should've been an inning-ending double play ball kicked by second baseman Adam Buschini. Muren ultimately scored on center fielder Reymond Fuentes' errant throw. Rene Garcia and Meyer added two-run singles. Andriese was tagged for five hits and struck two batters.
The Hooks extended their lead to 8-3 in the fourth, Jiovanni Mier's two-out single preceding Meyer's third home run of 2013.
The Missions drew to within three two frames later. Reliever David Martinez (6-0) was stung by five singles - including run-scorers by Fuentes and Rico Noel - but left the bases loaded. San Antonio's singleton in the seventh, made when Kalian Sams (lead-off double) tallied on Jake Blackwood's ground out, shrunk the margin to two.
Missions relievers Josh Geer and Jeremy McBryde gave two right back. Geer opened the home seventh by walking Max Stassi and surrendering a single to Enrique Hernandez. Ben Orloff greeted McBryde with a two-run single up the middle.
San Antonio refused to go quietly in the ninth. The Missions mounted a two-out rally, Rodriguez smoking a two-run double to right off Andrew Robinson.
Foltynewicz, who left after four innings and 75 pitches, allowed two earned runs and three hits. He issued three walks and struck out four.
Andriese was out after four as well, charged with three earned runs and 10 hits. He booked four K's.
Matt Heidenreich (2-3) starts the series and homestand finale for Corpus Christi Thursday at 7:05 against Keyvius Sampson (0-2).
