Santa Gertrudis' Dream Season Ends in State Championship Defeat

Posted: Updated:

AUSTIN (Kiii Sports) - The 2A State Softball Championship was an amazing back-and-forth pitchers' duel Thursday, one that was ultimately won by Pilot Point in a 1-0 victory over Santa Gertrudis.

Lady Lions' senior pitcher Carla Noel went the distance, but gave up a two out RBI double in the bottom of the 6th that ultimately proved to be the decisive run.

Santa Gertrudis had its big chance earlier in the top half of the inning, getting two runners in scoring position before Pilot Point ace Skylar Cagle got a strikeout and a popout to end the threat. Cagle finished the season with a perfect 28-0 record.

The loss capped what was the greatest season thus far in Santa Gertrudis' history at 39-5. The championship was the first in school history for Pilot Point.
