PORT ARANSAS (Kiii News) -

The Nueces County Medical Examiner's office has identified the man who fell from the Port Street Pier in Port Aransas on Wednesday and drowned.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Commander Brandon Evans, the victim was identified by the Medical Examiner as 41-year old Marcus B. Hancock.

Hancock was seen falling from the Port Street Pier on Wednesday afternoon, prompting a search effort from local authorities and the U.S. Coast Guard. That search became a recovery effort when Hancock's body was spotted by a couple that was fishing in the area.

The Corpus Christi Police Department's Search and Recovery Dive Team joined in that search on Thursday, along with Texas Parks and Wildlife, Port Aransas Emergency Medical Services, the Port Aransas Police Department and Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi. The body was recovered by the CCPD dive team at around 4:30 p.m., about 20 yards from the pier.

In a press release from the U.S. Coast Guard, an initial investigation shows that it was an accidental drowning. However, the official cause of death has not been determined by the Nueces County Medical Examiner at this time.
