Juneteenth Celebrations Kickoff Event at Solomon Coles

Folks gathered at Solomon Coles High School Friday morning for the kickoff of a 10-day celebration, all in the spirit of emancipation.

It's the 2013 Juneteenth celebrations, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day. It's an annual holiday which celebrates the end of slavery.

Organizers said that this month is a celebration of how far we have come as a nation.

Throughout the next couple of weeks, Juneteenth celebration events including a free health fair, will be held all across the Coastal Bend. For a list of those events, you can visit www.juneteenthccc.com.
