CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Some of the brightest high school juniors from Texas and surrounding states are getting a unique experience this week onboard the U.S.S. Lexington.

Not only are the kids getting to attend special workshops and seminars during the day onboard the Lady Lex, they get to spend their nights there as well.

It is the 2013 Southwest Youth Leadership Conference, a five-day conference aimed at teaching leadership skills to some 65 high school students from Texas, Mississippi and Oklahoma.

"We're doing a mock trial session, and we're there just to help guide them and bring out their leadership skills, and let them evolve the fundamental basics of being a leader and making the right choices," said Emma Lenk.

The conference began Sunday and wraps up on Thursday.
