Mental Evaluation Ordered for Murder Suspect David Christy

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

A judge ruled Tuesday that 28-year old David Christy is not competent to stand trial for killing his grandmother, 77-year old Johanna Christy, back in February.

Christy was charged with the murder after his grandmother's dismembered body was found buried in her backyard in early February.

In March, Christy's attorney asked 28th State District Judge Nanette Hasette to order a mental evaluation for his client. On Tuesday, the judge agreed.

A mental evaluation of Christy's competency will take place at Rusk State Mental Hospital over the next four months. Once the evaluation is complete, Christy is expected to be returned to Nueces County to stand trial.
