Future Corpus Christi Police Department officers hit the streets on Tuesday to help out a local grandmother, trading their usual tools for some elbow grease.Cadets in the 71st Police Academy helped build a Habitat for Humanity home going up on the 1000 block of Tenth Street. They said it was a life changing experience."It gives us a sense of pride, that we are giving back to the community," Cadet Alyssa Hernandez said. "It's a good exercise. I'll definitely do it again."The supervisor of the Habit project said that, with the cadets' help, their work is ahead of schedule, making the American dream of owning a home very close for a grandmother and her grandchild.
