(CNN) -- "Glee" star Jane Lynch's marriage to Lara Embry has reached the end of its road.

The 52-year-old actress tells CNN in a statement that she and Embry, whom she wed in 2010, are headed for divorce.

"Lara and I have decided to end our marriage," Lynch said in a statement. "This has been a difficult decision for us as we care very deeply about one another. We ask for privacy as we deal with this family matter."

According to People magazine, Lynch met Embry, 44, at a fundraiser in San Francisco in 2009. When the pair married in May 2010, at a ceremony that was also attended by Embry's daughter, Haden, Lynch commented to More magazine that up until then she'd never "dated anyone that I wanted to marry."

"I didn't think it was going to be out there for me," she said at the time.

Lynch is currently making her Broadway debut in a revival of "Annie." She's portraying the role of Miss Hannigan from May 16 to July 14.

CNN's Douglas Hyde contributed to this report.
