CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii Sports) - Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine is a must-read every year for high school football fans, but this season the magazine didn't exactly favor Coastal Bend teams as a whole.
The magazine had three area teams ranked in the state's top 25:
-CALALLEN (#19 - 4A)
-INGLESIDE (#22 - 3A)
-REFUGIO (#2 - 2A Div. II)
The Class 5A teams didn't get much love, as the King Mustangs were picked to finished third in District 28 while Carroll was once again predicted to miss the postseason.
In Class 4A, DCTF had Calallen winning District 30-4A with Gregory-Portland finishing third, yet also had the Wildcats advancing to the region final in Division-I. Flour Bluff was pegged to once again bring home the 31-4A crown.
Class 3A saw a shake-up this year as there will be four playoffs teams in each district for the first time ever. The magazine tabbed Ingleside, Sinton, Orange Grove and Rockport-Fulton to come out of 30-3A while Kingsville is the favorite to win the 31-3A crown.
Refugio's senior QB Travis Quintanilla was chosen as the 2A coverboy, and was also picked as the preseason offensive player of the year. The Bobcats were predicted to once again fall to #1 East Bernard in the region final, a fate Refugio hopes won't be repeated in 2013.
