CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

A local leader in the American Indian community is hoping you will rally behind his book.

Larry Running Turtle Salazar, president of the South Texas Alliance of Indigenous People, has finished a new book and it is about to hit the shelves.

Salazar said 100-percent of the profits will go toward building a 30-foot bronze monument that will be placed on the second largest Native American burial ground in Texas, which is located at the Hans and Pat Suter Park on Ennis Joslin.

"The book is about some of the teaching that I received growing up from my mom," Salazar said. "From the holy people and medicine people in different reservations here that I spent time at."

You can be the first to buy his book at the Summer Solstice Festival Event, which will be held from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday at the Asian Cultures Museum in downtown Corpus Christi.
