Corpus Christi (kiii sports)- The Corpus Christi Hooks spotted Springfield a 3-0 lead before rallying twice to beat the Cardinals 7-6 in a wild TV3 night game on Friday at Whataburger Field.
Matt Heidenreich, given another chance in the rotation after posting an ERA of over 10 in 5 previous starts for the Hooks, fell behind 3-0 after 2 innings. Matt wound up giving up 6 hits and those 3 runs in 4 innings of work. He did not issue a walk for the first time as a starter, which was one of his big goals.
Heidenreich was bailed out by a 5-run uprising in the bottom of the 3rd inning that was fueled by 2 critical Springfield errors.
For a second straight night, the Hooks bullpen failed to hold a 3-run lead as the Cardinals bounced back to erase a 6-3 deficit with 3 runs in the top of the 8th inning.
The Hooks broke the 6-6 extra-inning tie as Max Stassi doubled in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning. The Hooks took the series 2-1 and will open a 3-game set with Tulsa on Saturday night at 6:05pm at Whataburger Field.
