In Corpus Christi, a full day of events are set to celebrate the nation's Independence Day in a very big way.
Of course, capping it all off is the City's Big Bang Celebration, a spectacular fireworks show on the Corpus Christi Bayfront.
One of the most beautiful things about living in Corpus Christi is that, when it comes to the City's annual Big Bang fireworks display, anywhere along Shoreline, you have a front row seat.
Finding a parking space, however, gets a little tricky.
"Get here early. It eliminates the rush," said Captain James Brown of the Corpus Christi Fire Department. "You can take your time, bring the lawn chairs, the picnic. Get here early, set your place up on the grass, and you'll have a prime viewing area."
Captain Brown is on the mayor's committee of the Big Bang Celebration. He recommends the best way to ensure a good view of the fireworks is to get a spot early. Bayfront parking is at a premium on the Fourth of July.
Beginning at 10 a.m., there will be a parade down Shoreline Boulevard. Also, it will be dollar day at the Art Museum.
At 10:30 a.m., a kids zone will be set up at Kinney Street and Shoreline, across from Sherril Park. Even a special free park and ride will be set up for the daytime events.
"Park and ride will be available up until 1 p.m., and will just be for the afternoon event," Brown said. "We will not have park and ride for the fireworks display."
The Art Walk will be starting a day early downtown, from 1-9 p.m. Then, at 9:15 p.m., the Harbor Bridge light show will be going, until 9:30 p.m. when the fireworks show will begin off the U.S.S. Lexington.
