Government Furloughs Impact Civilian Workforce in Corpus Christi
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
Those government mandated furloughs are about to hit local government employees. The cuts are set to impact the 4,000-plus civilian workforce at the Corpus Christi Army Depot.
Nationwide, the Army estimates the cuts will save $15 billion and affect more than 300,000 jobs, with Texas being among the hardest hit states. Cuts to the Navy will impact 186,000 civilian workers nationwide, taking away as much as 20-percent of their paychecks.
Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi Spokesman Bob Torres said the furloughs will hit virtually all civilian employees.
Employees have been told they will be forced to take up to 11 unpaid days off, but there is some hope that that number could be scaled back.
