Progress Being Made in Chaparral Street Construction Project
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
Major progress has been made in the construction project on Chaparral Street in downtown Corpus Christi.
Chaparral, between William to Shatzel, has been under construction all year, but it's finally said to be nearing completion. Concrete has been laid for the roadbed in one of the two blocks, and contractors believe they can reopen the street on schedule.
"As you can see, they've got some concrete down for the road on this section of the project," City Engineer Dan Biles said. "It looks like we're going to have the road open to traffic in the September time frame, and when that happens, we've still got work to do behind the curves between the road and the buildings, but at least we'll get some traffic down here, and hopefully the rest of that should wrap up in 30 to 60 days after that."
The $4.9 million project also includes upgrading sewer and water lines in the area and the installation of new LED streetlights.
