Alice Mayor to Play Key Role in Eagle Ford Shale Conference

Posted: Updated:
ALICE (Kiii News) -

The Mayor of Alice has been asked to play a key role in an upcoming Eagle Ford Shale conference that will be held this fall.

Alice Mayor Larry Martinez is currently a leading organizer of something called the Eagle Ford Shale Consortium Committee. It's a group that includes civic leaders and dignitaries from Laredo to San Antonio and Corpus Christi.

Martinez said the conference will be held in October and will deal with some of the issues communities impacted by the Eagle Ford Shale oil and gas boom have to plan for, including public safety.

"Now with the roads that are being used in and throughout the area, that's a regional concern, or an issue of concern where we're addressing, trying to get the legislature to fund some of these projects," Martinez said. "And of course with us as the consortium, coming up with the idea of what we can do to help facilitate that."

Martinez said the conference will also address housing and education issues arising from the Eagle Ford Shale job creation boom.
