ORANGE GROVE (Kiii News) -

Jesus G. Martinez was a proud member of the U.S. Army during World War II, and on Friday in Orange Grove, he turned 95 years old.

Martinez was born in Corpus Christi in 1918. He would eventually go on several tours of duty during World War II as an Army medic. When he came back home, he got married to his wife of 70 years, Maria, who passed away on July 4, 2012.

Martinez spent most of his life in Corpus Christi, but 15 years ago he decided to retire to Orange Grove.

"I spent 80 years there. I worked for the City of Corpus Christi for about 36 years, and moved here about 15 years ago," Martinez said. "I decided to come over here. It's nice, quiet and peaceful over here, and Corpus was getting too big for me to drive around."

We here at Kiii-TV want to thank Martinez for his service, and we wish him many more healthy years.
