Tropeano Comes Off DL to Help Lead Shutout of Tulsa

Posted: Updated:

TULSA, OK (CC Hooks) - Nick Tropeano tossed six innings of three-hit ball and the Hooks belted three home runs as Corpus Christi blanked Tulsa 5-0 Sunday night at ONEOK Field.

The Hooks have now authored a club-record 11 shutout victories this season.

Corpus Christi (8-9, 50-37) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first thanks to an error by first baseman Kiel Roling. Rene Garcia and Jonathan Meyer both cracked singles and moved into scoring position on a passed ball. With two away, Preston Tucker hit a soft bouncer that glanced off the glove of Roling and kicked into shallow right, scoring Garcia and Meyer.

In the third, Erik Castro belted his 10th home run of the year off Dan Houston (2-6), making a spot start for Sean Gallagher.

The support was more than enough for Tropeano (3-6), who was making his first appearance since June 21. He walked one, struck out six and retired the last seven men in order.

Enrique Hernandez and Meyer added insurance with solo shots in the seventh and eighth innings, respectively.

Lefty Kenny Long worked around one hit and two walks over 1.2 frames. Andrew Robinson struck out two of the four batters he faced to end the game.

A pair of former Texas Tech Red Raiders toe the slab in Monday's finale. Bobby Doran (6-2, 3.32 ERA) gets the call for the Hooks as Tulsa (7-10, 41-44) counters with Chad Bettis (2-3, 3.73 ERA). First pitch is 7:05.
