Primetime Martial Arts Classes are offered by the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department at Oso and Lindale Recreation Centers. This company provides various martial arts classes that provide proven life-saving techniques and different martial arts moves that are safe and effective for all ages. The curriculum teaches individuals how to avoid abduction, how to get away, and how to get help. This program is not only designed to help citizens at times when danger is near, but also to teach them good values, build self-confidence, respect, honor, and discipline. In addition, this curriculum includes games, role playing, tests, and fun competitions. All students must be at least five years of age to join the classes. The class fees include four classes at two different locations for only $40 per month, plus a onetime $10 summer seasonal registration fee. Shorin-ryu Karate Class is offered by the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department for youth starting at ages 6 to adults on Mondays and Fridays from 4pm–5pm at the Oak Park Recreation Center, 842 Erwin Ave. This is an exciting way to learn a new street style of martial arts while you meet new friends. This program is designed to teach self-defense techniques in a safe environment while giving real life situations. Professional instruction is provided by Harriol Griffen. ATA Martial Arts Classes are offered by the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department at Northwest Senior Center, 9725 Up River Rd. In these classes students will learn a variety of skills that may include: instilling fitness for life, listening, paying attention, following directions, discipline, safety/self-defense, life skills, goal setting, managing bullies, respect, confidence, and self-esteem. Professional instruction is provided by Vincent Young of Young's ATA Martial Arts. All classes are taught by skilled, experienced, certified instructors who have successfully passed a thorough background check, infant/child/adult CPR certification, and have completed an extensive three-year teaching internship. Circuit Training Class is offered by the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department for adults on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30pm–6:30pm at the Lindale Recreation Center, 3133 Swantner Drive. Circuit training is a great way to get in shape and live a healthier lifestyle! If you are tired of feeling sluggish and need a way to get your heart rate going, this is the class for you! This program is a form of physical conditioning that uses low and high impact exercise to promote good health and increase the blood flow to the heart and lungs. Professional instruction is provided by Cheryl Vandever. Cost is $25 per month, or a $10 drop-in fee. Registration is ongoing. For more information, call 361-855-0392.

Bay Area Belly Dance Class is offered by the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department for adults on Wednesdays from 7pm–8pm at the Oso Recreation Center, 1111 Bernice Drive. If you are interested in learning a traditional Middle Eastern dance that involves the core muscles in the body then this is the class for you. This style of dance is not only artistic, but also burns calories while having fun! Belly dancing is an ancient performance art that focuses on sensuality, spirituality, and inner healing. Beginner Guitar Classes are offered by the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department for ages 6-12 at Oso Recreation Center, 1111 Bernice Drive. Two classes are offered: Mondays from 5–6pm for ages 9-12; and from 6–7pm for ages 6-8. Want to learn to play the guitar, but don't know where to start? Here's your chance! Guitar lessons are now being offered. Learn to tune the guitar, the anatomy of the guitar, vocabulary, basic technique, single note reading, and melodies. Students can bring their own acoustic guitar or use one of ours at a limited supply. Classes are limited and fill quickly, so register early.
