GREGORY (Kiii News) -

The Las Palmas Gameroom, an 8-liner off of Highway 35 near Palma Street in Gregory, was raided and shut down Wednesday night at around 6 p.m.

Authorities said the owners of the gameroom were warned that, if they operate illegally, they will be shut down. That's exactly what happened following an undercover investigation.

The raid commenced just as the gameroom was opened for business for the night. A handful of people were already playing at the machines, which law enforcement officers quickly seized, along with all of the money inside.

A sign in the building promised payouts and prizes, but the San Patricio County Sheriff's Office said they were dealing out cash, which is against the law.

"We were playing with gift cards and gifts. That's all we were doing," said one of the gameroom employees as he was handcuffed.

San Patricio County Sheriff Leroy Moody posted a sign on the door, letting everyone know that the Sheriff's Department is not going to stand for gamerooms operating illegally.

The owner will be facing felony charges, but he is not the only one who is in trouble with the law. All of the players who were putting money in the slot machines received a ticket for illegal gaming.
