Roadway Closed After Sticky Tar Damages Passing Vehicles

NUECES COUNTY (Kiii News) -

The Department of Public Safety announced they will be closing down F.M. 665 from U.S. 77 to County Road 107, after numerous vehicles were damaged by tar in the roadway.

According to Texas Department of Transportation, asphalt was laid down over the weekend, but because of recent rains, it did not set properly. As the sun came out Thursday afternoon, tar on the roadway began melting, causing problems for drivers in the area.

Drivers complained that tar was being flung all over their vehicles as they passed through the area, some even sustaining damage to their wheel wells and paneling. At the time, no signs were in place to direct traffic elsewhere.

Brannan Paving Company, the contractor responsible for laying down the asphalt this past weekend, has set up a toll-free line for those who have complaints or need to report tar damage. The number is 1-800-626-7064.

That stretch of roadway will remain closed until it is properly resurfaced.
