Mosquito Population at Low Levels Despite Recent Rains
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
With all the rain the Coastal Bend has seen in recent days, one might think that we would see an uptick in the mosquito population, but Corpus Christi's Vector Control said that does not appear to be the case -- for now.
On Tuesday morning, Vector Control went out to see if there have been more mosquitos found inside of their traps, but not much was discovered -- one or two mosquitos at most.
Vector Control officials said that, since we have been under drought conditions for quite some time, the rain is quickly being absorbed by the ground, and that's why we haven't seen much standing water, where mosquitos breed. However, we could see more and more of the insects in the coming days.
As for now, however, Vector Control plans to check mosquito traps every 24 hours to determine whether or not to start spraying for mosquitoes around the city.
