Corpus Christi (kiii sports) - The opening day of the TAAF Games of Texas feature blistering heat and at least one new record.

Eric Etie, who took up pole vaulting last summer at the urging of his father, set a record in the Boys 14 & under Pole Vault today with a leap of 13 feet 2 inches.

Setting a new mark in the Games of Texas was Eric's motivating factor through a strenuous workout schedule designed by his dad, a former pole vaulter.

Day two of the games, which feature 11 sports spread out all over the city, will get underway at 9am Friday.
