Former Taft High School band director Roy Hinojosa was sentenced Monday to 90 days in jail after pleading guilty in May to having a relationship with a student.

Hinojosa, 49, was sentenced at the San Patricio County Courthouse on Monday. It was back in November of 2012 when it was discovered that Hinojosa was having an improper relationship with a 17-year old girl who attended Taft High School.

In Texas, it is illegal for an educator to have a relationship with a student. Hinojosa had been a teacher in Taft for 20 years.
