We are learning more about what lead a pregnant woman to allegedly run over her common law husband, killing him. The crime took place Friday night in the parking lot of a Big Sam's Bar in the 10000 block of Leopard Street.
The 24 year old victim was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital. Police tell us they believe it was a moment of jealousy that lead to the tragic event. Police arrested 21 year old Dena Gomez.
According to police, she was furious at her common law husband because he decided to go out with some friends after work. That's when she confronted him at the bar on Leopard. Police tell us she argued with him and demanded that he come home. Authorities say she even hit him in the head with a bottle. The two finally walked out to leave. That's when the victim realized he left his phone inside the bar. He told Gomez he was going back to get it. According to police Gomez did not believe him and when he turned around to walk away, she allegedly stepped on the gas pedal and ran him over. Kirk Salinas explained what he saw, "he walked out and he was talking to us and he was telling us he was sorry for trying to walk out on the ticket and he was just joking around. It was funny, he was saying some funny stuff and just five minutes later he is just gasping for blood."
Gomez was taken to jail where she now faces murder charges. The couple had one young child together and Gomez is 6 months pregnant with their second child.
