Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA, is an organization that speaks for the best interests of abused children, and they need some help getting volunteers.
On Monday, nine volunteers went to their headquarters to get some training.
The group helps abused or neglected children as they make their way to a safer and healthier environment, but those who run the organization say they need more volunteers to step up and aid Child Protective Service investigators.
"Nine volunteers is not enough," CASA volunteer recruiter Erin Aguirre said. "We need more, for 35,000 investigations. Not all of them were set into foster care, but it's a pretty high number."
If you would like to train to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate, you can call their Corpus Christi headquarters at 361-884-2272, or their Kingsville headquarters at 361-595-7233. You can also visit their website at www.casaofthecoastalbend.com.
