Orange Grove Sergeant Forced to Carry Fleeing Suspect Out of the Brush
JIM WELLS COUNTY (Kiii News) -
An Orange Grove police sergeant had to carry a suspect out of the thick brush on his shoulders after that suspect fled from authorities Friday afternoon.
The suspect, 27-year old Leeroy Ortiz, complained about the discomfort of the thorns and hot soil.
It all happened after a Jim Wells County Sheriff's Department sergeant made a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Ortiz, who had outstanding warrants for his arrest. Ortiz threw his sandals at the sergeant and ran into the nearby brush.
Once Ortiz was detained, he complained about his discomfort, and Sgt. Gerald Arismendez of the Orange Grove Police Department carried him out of the brush on his shoulder. Ortiz was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, evading arrest and detention, and for two outstanding warrants.
