Citywide Event to Commemorate MLK's "I Have a Dream" Speech
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
It's been 50 years since Martin Luther King, Jr., gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech, and on Tuesday, the NAACP announced a citywide celebration to commemorate that speech.
"It is a community-wide event. It's not a black thing or white thing, or purple thing, or male thing, or female thing," local NAACP President Terry Mills said. "It is a community thing, for the fact that we're asking the community to come out and be part of history."
Mills said the first 1,000 people that show up to the event will receive a free t-shirt for "March the Rally" in honor of Dr. King. Thousands are expected to attend, and organizers say it will be the biggest celebration in Texas.
The event will take place Aug. 28 at Cole Park. Kiii News is a proud sponsor of the celebration.
