Health Authority Reminds College Students to Get Meningitis Shot
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
Just as it is for kids going back to school, it is also important for those heading off to college or even to the military to get their meningitis shot.
"Meningitis is an inflammation of the lining of the brain, and manifests itself with headache, fever, confusion, disorientation, seizures, and can even cause death," said Dr. William Burgin, City-County Health Authority.
Meningitis is spread like a cold, by coughing out and inhaling the virus. It is spread easily, especially when people are living in close quarters.
So just a reminder -- students under 30 years of age going to a Texas college or university must get their meningitis shot before starting school.
