Youngsters Alert Neighbor to House Fire in Flour Bluff
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
A quick thinking young man is being credited with alerting his neighbors about a house on fire Tuesday in Flour Bluff.
"We started smelling burnt rubber," Caleb Gebert said. "Looked across, saw the lady's house on fire."
Gebert and his siblings noticed smoke coming from his neighbors house in the 100 block of Montreal Drive, so they began knocking on doors.
Fire officials said the woman who lives in the home was in her backyard when she realized her house was on fire. She grabbed a garden hose and, with her neighbors help, put out most of the fire by the time firefighters arrived at the scene.
"Me, my brother and sister got them, and then the next door neighbors, we were trying to make sure their house didn't catch fire," Caleb Gebert said.
"Tried to knock on the lady's home to get her to come out," his sister Lisa Gebert said. "She wouldn't come out. So the guys from next door actually got her to come outside."
The damage was contained to the kitchen, and there was also heavy smoke damage throughout the rest of the home; but luckily, no one was hurt.
