Three Heroes from Holmes Drive Explosion Honored by CCFD
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
Two men and a young woman were honored Thursday by the Corpus Christi Fire Department for showing incredibly bravery on July 12, when a house on Holmes Drive exploded.
Corpus Christi Fire Chief Robert Rocha presented plaques to three individuals hailed as heroes for helping save Ryan Conner and Bob Farley from the massive blast -- Kimberly Rodriguez, Omar Zitooni and Mike Obenhaus.
Farley succumbed to his injuries a week later in a San Antonio hospital, and Conner is currently in outpatient rehab.
Conner's mother said the heroes saved more than just her son.
"To save a son's life is to save a mom's heart, and I mean it means the world to me," Cindy Conner said. "I almost lost my oldest boy."
"I feel like it's something anyone should have done," said Mike Obenhaus, one of the three who were honored Thursday. "I don't feel like a hero, honestly."
The explosion was caused by a gas leak, the source of which has still not been found.
