ALICE (Kiii News) -

The first homicide in Jim Wells County this year has now become a double homicide investigation, after the second victim in a Sunday night shooting died in the hospital Monday night.

Christopher Montes, 23, was sent via HALO Flight to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital in critical condition Sunday night, after he and his wife, 27-year old Marissa Montes, were found inside of their vehicle in a ditch just outside of Alice. Both of them had gunshot wounds to the face.

Marissa Montes was pronounced dead at the scene of the crime. Investigators with the Jim Wells County Sheriff's Department, along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, were scouring the scene for evidence Monday.

The Jim Wells County Sheriff's Department confirmed Tuesday morning that Christopher Montes died in the hospital.
