A homeowner managed to thwart a rather brazen attempt at auto burglary Wednesday morning on the 7700 block of Calgary, off Rodd Field Road.
It was just after 7 a.m. when the 35-year old homeowner started his wife's truck and went back inside of his home. When his wife went outside, she saw a man taking things from her truck.
When her husband came back outside to confront the thief, he took off running, with the husband in pursuit. The chase ended in a swampy area across from Ella Barnes Elementary at about 7:30 a.m. when police arrived and arrested 20-year old Andrew Carignan.
Just before police arrived, Carignan allegedly threatened to kill the homeowner if he did not stop following him. Because of that threat of force, Carignan is now facing charges of robbery.
Police said Carignan was easy to identify because he was covered in mud, and added that he was wanted for a parole violation in connection with another burglary.
