Fishermen Spot Orcas Offshore in the Gulf of Mexico

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

It was an incredible sight for a couple of local fishermen over the past weekend when they spotted orcas, commonly known as killer whales, in the Gulf of Mexico.

Typically, orcas are thought to dislike warm waters, but Rick Sowers and his friend saw them while participating in a fishing tournament. They were about 85 miles offshore in Port Aransas when they saw them, and Sowers managed to get it on video.

"We just kind of didn't know what to do, so I ran downstairs, grabbed my iPad and started videoing," Sowers said. "Never seen an orca. Never in the Gulf. Pretty amazing."
