Former Driscoll Police Chief Guilty of Harassment, Not Assault
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
A jury of five women and one man found former Driscoll Police Chief Ben Zapata guilty of harassment, but not assault, on Friday.
Zapata, 58, was on trial after allegedly assaulting his common law wife, Oralia Cuellar. Investigators said Zapata punched her in the mouth, cutting her lip. Prosecutors said that Zapata harassed Cuellar by calling her more than 50 times after the alleged assault.
Cuellar testified Thursday that the alleged incident was typical of a "couples disagreement" that escalated.
