CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

It has been 50 years since Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., immortalized the words "I have a dream," in what is considered one of the most influential speeches in history.

To commemorate the anniversary, the local NAACP is hosting a citywide celebration and march called United We Stand.

It begins at 7 p.m. with a rally at Elizabeth and Ocean Drive, where Kiii News Reporter Bill Churchwell went Live with the details of the night's event.

People will start gathering for the event at around 6:30 p.m., and once the march begins, they will make their way to Cole Park. Shirts will be handed out the first 1,000 people show up, and Kiii-TV is a proud sponsor of the event.

Here are some facts about Dr. King:

If alive today, Martin Luther King, Jr., would be 84 years old. He graduated from high school in Atlanta in 1944 at the age of 15, and received his PhD from Boston University at the age of 26.

One year after his famous speech, King received the Nobel Peace Prize, making him the youngest man to have ever received the prize, at the age of 35.
