Two Dolphins Found Washed Up On Area Beaches

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Two bottlenose dolphins were found washed up on area beaches over the weekend -- one in Ingleside and the other in Bayside.

Both dolphins were adults, and while their cause of death is still undetermined, Tony Amos of the University of Texas Marine Science Institute said they did not have any external injuries.

"It's a fairly steady occurrence here," Amos said. "You have to realize animals do die, and that their bodies go somewhere; and with dolphins, their bodies frequently wash up on area beaches. Sometimes we can tell why, sometimes not."

Amos said that, if you spot a beached dolphin, do not touch it. They can pass along diseases. The best thing to do is call the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network at 1-800-9-MAMMAL.
