Hurricane Tour Reminds Residents of the Importance of Insurance

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

The Texas Department of Insurance and the National Weather Service have teamed up to advise coastal residents of the potential dangers of hurricanes and not having insurance.

This year's theme is "Hurricanes Mess with Texas," and the team has traveled up and down the Texas coast, advising communities about the dangers of not having hurricane insurance. They made a stop in the Coastal Bend on Thursday.

Mark Hanna, a spokesman from the Insurance Council of Texas said people should not be complacent when it comes to hurricane insurance.

"We look back at Hurricane Ike -- it was the costliest storm in Texas history five years ago, and a lot of those people were under-insured -- and ask everybody to contact an insurance company," Hanna said. "It's a free phone call, and make sure that they have adequate insurance in that event that a catastrophe comes rolling around."

The main message is to be prepared for what may ever come along, and make sure you have the proper insurance coverage.
