Kate Upton channels Marilyn Monroe for special Vanity Fair issue

Happy anniversary, indeed! A Hollywood icon is gracing the cover of Vanity Fair 's 100th issue.

Well, kind of.

The magazine, which launched back in 1913 with its original title of Dress & Vanity Fair has tapped modern-day bombshell Kate Upton to dress up as the legendary Marilyn Monroe for its milestone issue.

Clad in a satiny champagne-colored one-piece, the model rocks Monroe-inspired retro curls and a sultry red pout, as she seductively leans over a birthday cake with a single candle on it.

Not a bad way to celebrate an anniversary, huh?

Photographer Annie Leibovitz shot the shapely star for the cover, as well as for a pic within the magazine's pages that sees her lounging on a crescent moon in a recreation of the illustration that appeared on the glossy's first cover.

Upton, who shot to fame in large part thanks to her super sexy Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover, opened up to the magazine about the difficulties of making a name for herself as a fashion model.

"I'm not going to name names, but one agency told me, 'You're too American, and everybody knows American women are lazy,'" she revealed. "I was so offended! I've never been so offended! I was like, 'You know that you're in America, right?' And it wasn't 'American models' — it was 'American women are lazy,' period! I feel like a lot of women would disagree with that. A lot!"

Whatever the case, her American looks are definitely working in her favor now.

Despite her past struggles, the blonde beauty is quickly cementing her status as a high-fashion darling. This year alone, she's landed covers for the American and Brazilian editions of Vogue and, more recently, she graces the September issue of Elle.
