Javelinas Excited for Season Opener Saturday

Posted: Updated:

KINGSVILLE (Kiii Sports) - Central Washington has become a common opponent for Texas A&M-Kingsville the last few years, and the Javelinas are hoping for continued success over the Wildcats.

The Hoggies have taken the first two games against Central Washington, including a 35-7 rout last year in Kingsville. Now the Javelinas head up to Ellensburg, WA for the second time in three years.

Both teams have gone through coaching changes in the offseason, albeit a little earlier in Kingsville. David Calloway was promoted to Head Coach after Bo Atterberry left in December. Meanwhile, the Wildcats fired their five-year Head Coach Blaine Bennett in August, just five days before the start of training camp. CWU promoted longtime assistant John Picha as interim coach.

Calloway and Texas A&M-Kingsville will face a fresh face behind center for the opener, as redshirt freshman Alex Rios out of San Antonio was named the starter at quarterback.
