A big fundraiser is taking place Thursday night to help fund the future needs of women and their babies. It's the 24th annual Celebration for Life Banquet at the Solomon P. Ortiz Center.
The money goes towards places like Hope House, the only maternity home in the Coastal Bend area. Father Shenan Boquet gave 3News a tour of the facility Thursday morning, and will be the guest speaker at Thursday night's fundraising event.
Boquet is the president of Human Life International, one of the largest pro-life organizations in the world. The Hope House facility, which handles some 2,000 women and their children throughout the year, impressed him.
It's exactly what he believes should be happening in all communities. It gives women the chance to choose life for their baby. Women can stay at Hope House, have their baby, and then both mom and child get the attention and help they need to get back on their feet.
Hope House has been around since 1987, and the organization hopes to expand its services to even more women in the future. They hope to be able to buy property or renovate another home along Robinson Street to go with their other two facilities located there.
