Fire Crews Quickly Control Blaze at Gaslight Apartments
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
Quick action by a witness and firefighters kept a fire from spreading at the Gaslight Apartments in the 4600 block of Kostoryz Road Thursday night.
Fire crews were called out just before 8 p.m. When they arrived on the scene, they found two rooms in one of the apartments on fire. They were able to control the situation in just over six minutes.
"I was leaving in a car and I saw smoke coming out of the house," said Destiny Lopez, who spotted the fire. "I jumped out of the car and came running over here and I told my grandmother to call the cops."
"Crews did a fantastic job of getting here as fast as they could. Two minutes," said Battalion Chief Kenneth Erben of the Corpus Christi Fire Department. "And once they got on scene, they got to work very quickly and did an excellent job."
Fortunately, no one was in the apartment when the blaze broke out. There has been no word yet as to the cause of the fire.
