HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Police are working to find the killers who fatally shot a man as he tried to protect children during a robbery inside a west Houston Denny's restaurant about a week ago. Now they say they've taken two people into custody.

Three armed masked men barged into the Denny's on I-10 and Washington late on Monday, August 26. Police say they demanded money and two of the three opened fire.

Greig Placette, 64, of Port Arthur, was among the 15 customers and workers in the restaurant when the armed robbers rushed in demanding wallets, money and cell phones. Police say a 43-year-old worker was shot multiple times while trying to run. He is recovering. Placette, who was shot while trying to shield young children, died later at the hospital.

Sources tell Eyewitness News they've made two arrests in the Denny's case. No other details are available at this time.
