September 11th is a day that remains in the memory of first responders everywhere. Here in South Texas, local officers and firefighters gathered Saturday morning to honor their brothers and sisters they lost on that tragic day 12-years ago.
This ceremony was part of the 2nd Annual Patriot 5K Fun Run and walk. Over 250 participants registered for the race, all to support the local law enforcement agencies.
Captain James Brown, Corpus Christi Fire Department, says,"Whenever you get that and show of the appreciation it makes you feel good."
And despite Saturday morning rain, this didn't scare away the runners. Hundreds showed up with their families to support of the men and women protecting our community.
David Garcia, Nueces County Sheriff's Office, says,"It means a lot it just touches us and we see that they care about us."
"Even though we do it because we love it its always good to know that you are appreciated and respected," says Capt. Brown.
The money raised will help buy equipment and training that might not be in the city budget.
