September is National Recovery Month, and one local group is hoping you will help them in their quest to help those struggling with substance abuse.
"It's such an amazing organization," said Deanna Sullivan with Oxford Houses of Corpus Christi. "If you know anyone who is struggling with addiction or alcoholism, send them our way."
Oxford Houses of Corpus Christi is an organization that has six houses in Corpus Christi for those who are coming straight out of rehab and are looking to adjust to the real world. The first home was built here in 2009. By this fall, the group is hoping to add a seventh and eighth home.
"In Corpus Christi, we are fortunate to have really good facilities and councilors, but for some people, the 30-45 days they spend there is just not enough," said Eric Gonzalez, also with Oxford Houses. "When they get out of there, they come to us and stay as long as they want, and stay clean and pay their rent and make some positive changes."
"What makes it successful is the fact that we hold each other accountable no matter what," Sullivan said. "If someone relapses, you have to go."
Throughout the month of September, Oxford Houses is holding an online fundraiser. If you would like to donate to the group, click here.
